Community participation can extend forest monitoring and provide more regular information from areas that short research surveys cannot always cover. Community-generated data, however, remain useful over time only when recording procedures are simple enough for field use and consistent enough to summarize, validate, and apply.
I am interested in combining field training, standardized forms, SMART, and GIS to support patrol and monitoring workflows. Important elements include consistent observation codes, recording survey effort, post-patrol data checks, and feedback to data collectors so that procedures improve over time.
The objective is not to collect as much data as possible. Information should address defined management questions and be shared according to appropriate access permissions. Patrol routes, enforcement information, and sensitive species locations are not published on this website.
